I swapped out the bench seat in my truck for a set of buckets from a Mazda 929. These seats are way more comfortable then the stock bench, plus gave me more room to put 2 10" subs behind the seats and still sit comfortably. The biggest downfall is I can only sit 2 in my truck now. I built a center console for it also but plan to to redo it. The first one was built in a rush with no plans, it turned out ok but I want better. I plan to build a pod that looks similar to a cowl induction to place the gauges (Tach., mech. oil pressure, mech. temp and volt gauges) in since the console runs all the way up under the dashboard. There will also be a hidden compartment to house the amplifiers, along with the usual junk storage compartment under the arm rests.

How hard was it to swap the seats? Did they just bolt right into place? Dont bucket seats out of cars make you lose some height? My friend put in some buckets in his 80 C10, and they were alright, but we could no longer fit 5 in his cab. My bench seat is getting extremely annoying and squeaky, so I wanna put buckets in, but dont know what kind of vehicle to get some out of, nor how much it's gonna run me. Any recommendations for donor vehicles??

There are no bolt in bucket seats for these trucks,, unless it is the kind with the fold down console in the middle that can run $600 and up. Having access to a welding machine is a huge help in this process. The seats I installed in my truck came out of a Mazda 929. I had to modify the feet that mount to the floor in the back to sit level. There are no perfect donor seats to work in these trucks. Its more a matter of looking at the slide tracks on the bottom of the seat and getting a seat that looks like it will match the floor board preety close. When I bolted mine in, I just drilled new holes through the floor board and bolted them in the new holes. This will be a major pain since the gas tanks are actually right under the seat area. I removed all but one bolt on the straps holding the gas tank to the frame so the front side of the gas tank would drop, with the aid of a jack under it, so I could access the floor board above them (dual tanks). Depending on the seeat mounting style you can loose some hieght unless you modify the mounts to raise the seat up some. The best advice I can give you to finding a set of seats is to look around in the salvage yards. Find a set that is comfortable to sit in, and be sure to get them as a set. I had a set of, I hate to say it, junky a$$ f@#d Mustang seats in a previous truck and they are very comfortable but higher in price usually.

I took the seats out of my 78 to put in my 85 because they are iin better shape, but it seems the bracket holes aren't the same. Is it just me or are they really different? What is the easiest way to changed seat belts. I cannot get the ones mounted on the post loose at all. I'm afraid they are going to get stripped.

If the brackets don't line up right with the holes you can always drill new holes and use a bolt and nut to hold it down to floor board. As far as the seat belt, are you talking about the shoulder stap mounting to the door pillar, and you can't get it to stay loose enough to move?

Yeah the one on the pillar. I need to take it out so I can have them replaced with black ones, but the bolts that hold then in on the bottom acts like it was welded in. I cannot get it to move at all and when I try to use a torque wrench it starts to strip the heads. They are large bolts that have an allen wrench head. I got the top ones off just not the bottoom ones.

Those are some tough bolts to break especially one trucks this old. If the heads are starting to strip, spray the bolts down with some penetrating fluid and let them sit for a bit to soak in. If this don't help you might need to repeat the process a few times. They can be stubborn but if you keep working on them they will give. Another idea if you can get them to move is to tighten them up some then loosen, when it starts getting tough again tighten it up and loosen again repeating over and over as many times as it takes till it comes out. Hope this helps you out. :comfort:

I used bucket seats out of an 84 s truck the drivers side bolted in with only 1 hole to drill but the pasenger side was a little more difficult you need to cover the space between the floor and the foot of the seat. Witch is kind of wierd 'cause the distance is exactly the same length as those metal sleeves that fit in the bushings on my shocks so I just used one of those.

Thanks. I also found out that part of my problem was the seat rails were bent pretty bad. My next thing is the center console. It doesn't sit flat on the hump. I am thinking about putting a newer one in anyways.

I used a piece of 2x4 and a deadblow hammer to get my 'rails back into shape. I also found a center console from a 84 blazer for twenty bucks! Love the paper.

I have the console itself it just doesn't sit flat. I think I might go to the one in the newer trucks. They can be used as a seat or a console. I think the floor is warped from when the idiot removed the transfer case and the tranny. They weren't very gentle with the body at all.

I just threw in some new buckets myself, out of a '96 lincoln towncar, gray leather with arm rests. there sweet...got them from a junk yark and had to hacksaw them off their brackets so needless to say i had to weld my own together.

i just put bucket seats in my truck, the seats are from an 86 junky a$$ f@#d ranger. i had to cut the mounting brackets off and build some new ones, then i built a frame that i bolted to the floor, to get the seats to sit as high as the bucket was (so i could see over the dash). I'm having a center console/third seat built.
