Hey, here's the deal, I have a 305 out of a 78 chevy truck. It was pulled out of the truck about 6 months ago and left outside and the distributor was also removed. 1st how do I get the distributor back into the motor correctly (I have the original dist.) and what should I do to get the motor ready to run again? Currently I plan to run diesal or gas thru the carb and intake with the spark plugs removed to flush out the carb, intake, cylinders and heads. When I pulled the plugs, water came out of one of the cylinders. I plan to use the motor and auto. trans for a dunebuggy. Any help would be great. Thanks

To be completely honest, I'd go into a teardown and inspect it. With water sitting in the cylinders, there is likely heavy rust in the bores, and possibly rings stuck in the pistons.
At the least, you will need to have the bores resurfaced, and possibly polish the crank if there has been water sitting in the bottom end rusting the crank journals.
