Where can I get a switching valve for my duel tank setup?
Will the fact that the valve doesn't work affect my fuel gauge, Sometimes it (gauge)works... sometimes it doesn't.?

you should be-able to get it at a gas tank service place or a good parts place old style place that try to get stuff for you and you truck.
You could have some wiring ground at the or power side @ the switch or sending unit. I would check there FIRST that the biggest place that happens rust or bad wire lot of strains broken and bumps or swaying of the cab or frame make it work and not.
