my 86 has 10 bolt front and rear ends with 3.08 gears and im running 33 1250 pro comp mud terrains and i was wondering how much abuse these axles will handle. especially if i step up to a larger tire. obviously ill have to get a better gear which im in the works of doing. but i just wonder if its worth it for me to put money in theses axles

I wouldn't go more than 35" tires on the ten bolts and you should be okay. But throw a locker in the mix and your talking upgrading axleshafts. Personally I'd save the money and upgrade to a front 44 rear14 bolt or if your lucky a 60 front and a 14 bolt rear.Since both of these axels are bolt in, the only thing you would have to do is deal with yoke issues and u joint size drama.

What about steering issues with the front end. If you swap from 1/2 to 3/4 or 1 ton front end all the drag links and tie rods would have to change, right? Are the steering arms the same of different and what about the pitman arm. How much is the same and how much would you have to use from the new front end. I'm thinking about doing the same thing and i just replaced a lot of this and if i could reuse it that would be cool. If not i would not be a happy camper since it wasn't on the cheap side. Thanks for your help.
