Ok. I hate finding out that my system has been ripped off by some thug! So what better way than to make you system look factory.... how?
this is what we did, and it sounds pretty good.
I located a factory Delco AM/FM Cassette with digital tuning, separate bass and treble controls from a 1987 Blazer. Ya its kinda big but it bolts (and I mean bolts) in the factory opening of our 76 and the dash face wraps around it like it is men to be. (because it is)
We installed premium pioneer speakers in the dash, this is another story because in 76 there was only one dash speaker. we changed our dash pad and trim to the 87 style. this gets quite involved of you want to use the factory speaker locations and brackts.....
We installed premium 4X6 speakers behind the seats with some factory brackets and grills.
All 4 speakers recieved crossovers to keep everything below 100Hz out of them
We purchased an 8" Bazooka powered sub and mounted it behind the seat.
Next to the bazooka we mounted a JVC FM modulated 12 disc changer with MP3 playback.
NOW the real fun...... where to mount the JVC CD display and controller.
My son is a non smoker. so the ash tray was the perfect area. the display was just the right with to mount in place of the ash tray. our local stainless steel shop fabricated a nice little trim under the display where we velcroed the wireless remote. when the truck is parked, with the ash tray closed. it looks completely stock. no thief would want to attempt to steal a factory tank of a radio!!!!
How does it sound?
pretty darn good! gets nice and loud, and thumps quite nice. My kid can select through almost 4000 songs when he loads 12 cd's up with MP3 and it real easy to read and select.
All costs were less than a Ipod and its hidden, out of the way and appears stone stock, not to mention you get great AM/FM from the old Delco tuner. with a nice digtal clock that you can read.
if anyone wants to see photos.... let me know .
