My fuel gage reads "Over Full" all the time when you cut the truck off it drops a lil, I was wondering if I can get to the sending unit to check connections without dropping the tank? Its in a 1980 Custom Deluxe.

this is on the message TANK . ;D TIP: Check the ground on the top of the tank were the pick up is, then fallow the wire back to the frame check there to. Try to run a jumper line from the pickup ground to a good spot on the frame to double check it. If that ok then check the ground to the gauge , ( batt to Frame ground ) .

I'm having that same problem. When I turn my ignition off my guage seems to read about where it should be but once I turn the truck on it buries itself past full. My truck used to have duel tanks but the last owner removed the other tank as well as the switch to switch tanks. I will check the grounds. Thanks

Pontiac Is absolutely correct, I just had this happen with one of my trucks about 2 months ago, It use to be dual tanks, but converted to one, problem was the swtich for the tanks nuts the bed. So I simply ran the lines over to the opposite side, and I had the same problem with the ground wire, and that's exactly what it is, mine was bad though that the truck wasn't getting any fuel, it coughed and hacked once it was put in gear or had to work. You will need to drop the tank to correct this, run a new ground, or trying the ground from the other side.

HELLO EVERYONE.I WROTE IN A WHILE BACK ABOUT MY FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING.LOTS OF GOOD ADVICE.I SPENT PROBABLY 5 HOURS TRACING WIRES AND TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS.NEW GROUND WIRES EVERYWHERE.I FINALLY GOT UNDERNEATH THE DASH AND TRACED THE WIRES FROM THE GAUGE,THE SWITCH TO CHANGE TANKS,AND TESTED EVERY WIRE.ITS EMBARASSING TO TELL YOU WHAT WAS WRONG.IF YOU LOOK ON THE INSIDE OF THE FIRE WALL,YOU WILL SEE WHERE ALL THE WIRES GO THROUGH THE FIRE WALL FOR YOUR SENDING UNITS AND THE VALVE TO SWITCH TANKS.I GOT UNDERNEATH THE HOOD AND JUST RIGHT OF THE DISTRIBUTOR THEIR IS A PLUG WHERE YOUR WIRES TO THE BACK PLUG INTO.IN CAME UNPLUGGED.I PLUGGED IT IN AND EVERYTHING WORKS PERFECT.ALL THE WORK SUCKS AND ITS FRUSTRATING.SO EVERYONE CHECK THE PLUG ON THE FIREWALL FIRST.GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCE.
