[glow=blue,2,300]So I have come to find out that my tranny is in fact a th350! I found out when I was replacing the gasket and it wasn't the right one. So now I now that. I also found out that my tranny fluid was just low not gone.[/glow][glow=red,2,300]The blood all over the concrete was from the dripping of many years of the former owners neglect of this tranny pan leak that just dripped in my eye[/glow][glow=orange,2,300]I had one question though. Is the reason that my tranny was not kicking into third because the vaccum hose on the top of the tranny came apart again?[/glow][glow=green,2,300]Cause I hooked it up again and wanted to know if it really matters that much. Thanx [/glow]

The vac line controls the upshift.
If it sees low or no vacuum, then it thinks the engine is at WOT, and will give you a late, hard shift.
Was it a late shift fron 1-2 as well? Did it rev way up before shifting?

There you go. You had a modulator vacuum line problem the whole time.
There should only be about 4" of rubber hose at the trans, the rest is a steel line that runs up the back of the engine, and then a 2" section of rubber hose to connect it to the fitting on the intake. Helps keep a large section of line from getting hot and brittle over time.
BTW, your posts are starting to look like a Skittles commercial...."Taste the rainbow..."

[glow=white,2,300]So I have been driving my truck around and the tranny still has a problem with the shift from 2nd to 3rd. It still shifts at about 2500. Do you think that it is not getting enough vaccum because my idle is too low? It idles at around 500.[/glow]

The idle has nothing to do with it. You're not at an idle when you are shifting from 2-3... What is the RPM at for the 1-2 shift? If the modulator isn't the problem, the next usual problem spot is the governor. They wear out over time. Sometimes the weights start to cut into the housing and cause other problems.

Well, now it shifts at 1500 rpm for the 1-2 but the third gear shift is tempermental, it shifts at 3500, 2500 and then when it is in third it comes out at random times and makes it sound like i am trying to accelerate when I'm not. Also I have noticed a big loss in power while driving. :steamin:

Sounds like it's slipping then.
The fluid level is dead on, right?
If the 1-2 shift is fine, the govenor and the modulator should be fine. Sounds like you may have an internal problem.

I had a friend that had a bad modulator in his turbo 350. It would shift to 2nd fine, sometimes shift to 3rd then back down to 2nd, sometimes not shift at all. Try replacing it first. They are only like 10 bucks at the parts house.

No problem. For $10, it's worth a shot. I've never seen one shift fine for the 1-2 then delay the 2-3 shift though. Usually, I say usually, when they go bad, they just go bad.
Stranger things have happened though.

I usually thought when they go bad they are bad too but this was the problem with his. Changed it out and it worked great. For 10 bucks to try it though is cheap. I spend more in beer standing around looking at my truck then that most of the time. ;D Must be why I usually don't have alot of money to buy parts. Oh well got to have fun somehow atleast. :drunk:
