I'm currently removing my 84 4x4 Cab and replacing it with a nice 87 2-WD Cab. If I'm not mistaking isn't the center hump larger on the 4X4 than on the 2-WD?
If so can I just cut the center hump from the 4X4 floor and install it in the 2-WD cab after I cut that one out? I just want to be sure there are no other problems I'm unaware of, because if there is I will stick with the cab I already have on the 4X4 now.
Just for those who wonder mt 84 didn't have factory AC, so I'm adding AC to it. The 87 is already setup with factory AC and the cab is in pristine shape compared to the cab that is now on my 84.
In the process because I purchased the 87 for a parts truck I'm also going to add the fuel injection to it as well, so the 87 cab is complete with all of the wiring I need to make this entire swap.
Any help or suggestions would be a great help. I am not worried about any metal work, I have a Mig Welder and a Plasma Cutter as well with a complete donor truck. So anything I need I should have (hopefully?)
Thanks in advance

That is one of the most biggest different between the cabs. The only other small things that might be a tinny problem is some of the bracket under dash for the A/c or CPU But since your 87 has A/c and wiring CPU and you have two complete trucks your set up nice!
UN-do all the wiring @ the Bulk head they just one bolt then UN plug the motor & front body wiring, rear wiring. UN-screw all the grounds and mark them all other body grounds, & going to the cab too. Keep the cab wiring with the cab UN-till your ready to do work on it. I would start with the box on the 87 if your going to use it . make sure all the wiring off the box and grounds filler neck and braces then UN-do the I believe 6 or 8 bed bolts. your going to need all the body mount off the 84 4x4 frame or maybe a few new one or a complete set. Then the front clip. Take all the wiring off try to save as many factory clips on the rad support then if the 84 and the 87 have different light Set up it's up to you what one you want to use in your set up. For all bolts you do not want to make more work so lube them down with lost some kinda lube and rust eater. The bed and most important part the cab bolts then take your time with them. let it soak if it take two day to two months that OK . this should get you started. Try to in joy take your time on any rusty bolts. UN-less you can replace then easy.get at them on both sides.

Hi Pontiac1976, Thanks for the advice. What I do have is the complete truck a 1987 2WD that the only thing wrong with is a slight rod knock. It belonged to my future Son-in-Laws Granddad, so it is in beautiful shape.
As far as the cab goes I do plan on using every wire from the cab, the bed, and engine compartment so when I'm finished the truck will basically be a 1984 4X4 with a 1987 body with all of the trimmings.
The body and front end are (great luck finding this one) have the exact same headlight layout as my 84 does, so I won't have to change anything there as far as the lighting goes. I do wish it was the four headlight setup and not the two light system such as I currently have, but beggar's can't be choosers.
Now that you have answered my big question I will now go out and measure the center hump on the 4X4, and then mark the 2 WD hump for removal. What I was thinking about is now that I have to cut the hump out to make it all fit in the 4X4 I'm going (hopefully that is) to figure out a way to bolt the hump into place and seal it just in case I ever decide to pull the engine or tranny in the future. I can just weld it into place but I feel if I do have access through the hump in the future it might help me out just in case.
One thing that will help me out greatly is I do have a 6000 lb lift in my shop so I can lift the entire truck and remove the cab bolts, and anything left under the truck that is a pain to get to. I have already had the bed off and it's still disconnected but laying on the frame for ease of moving it right now. About the only thing I don't have is some manner in which to pick the cab up with (what are friends for?) I used the lift to pick the bed up but I don't think the lift arms are high enough to get the cab high enough (we'll see I guess)
I will take pictures of the trucks as I'm going along so I can show some of them when I'm done. This project just started out as a simple 84 4X4 weld a few panels in and add tilt steering. Now it's turned into a full blown rebuild and add of most of the truck. I guess the fun has begun, let the games begin.
Thanks for your help and suggestions, if you or anyone else have any more great ideas as you have already brought up please send them this way.
Thanks,
