hey all been a while since ive posted but ive run into a problem and see if any one elese out there has ideas to help me out... I am in the process of changing my stock 10 bolts on my 86 k 10 over to 3/4 ton (aka dana 44/14bolt FF) well the axle rebuild is going relatively smoothly, but ive run into one problem i planned on changing my 1/2 ton 5 leaf springs over to 3/4 ton 8 leaf... well i found a sweet deal on a set off an 85 and when i got them they were two inches longer than the ones on my truck.... the place i got them from said that the two inches wouldnt matter much and that because i was measuring the spring while on the truck this would cause the difference... i planned on addding a lift to my truck when i put the axles in and was going to do a shackle flip in the rear to do away with rear blocks so... im just wondering if my shackle will have enough movement to flex with the added length of the springs... any help would be greatly appreciated

I dont know first hand if this will cause a problem but I do know that there are some springs 2 inches longer than others. Can't remember which ones they were on. :bash: My suggestion would be, if your set on using the 3/4 ton springs, then do the shackle flip and mount the springs. Then just look at the angle of the shackle, if it seems too much it wont work. If not you will be fine. Only down fall is if they are too long you have to swap out the springs again. But in my opinion with 3/4 ton springs, plus extra like you mentioned you will have 1 HELL of a stiff suspension to be riding in when unloaded. My half ton has heavy duty rear springs, like the ones used in 5/8 ton trucks, and it beats me to death like a low rider would. And yes I used to have one of those too when I was a kid.

the reason im going to such a large number of springs is that i have broken 2 of my half ton springs due to excessive weight. my truck gets used more like a 3/4 ton than a 1/2 ton. so i figured a remedy to this problem would be to step up to heavier/ thicker springs. and the ride quality of my truck is already bad so its not going to affect me much. thanks for the imput bow tie
