There are 2 ways that I can tell you how to determine what gear ratio you have in your axle. There are many other ways also, this is a way to find it without tearing anything apart and by manufactors markings.
1: If the options code list is still in the glove box of your truck it will have a code with the details abbreviated next to it there.
2: If you look on the rear axle on the front of the passenger side there should be a code there.
There are several places to translate these RPO codes. I will list some at the bottom of this post. If you can't find a translation for any of them please post them and we will try to find out what they are for you.

Man, thanks for the useful sites. According to my options sticker, I have a 3.42 rear end and heavy duty rear springs. I'm still checking some of the other codes, but man, those are some helpful links. What does this one mean, any idea? : MXO : MERCHANDISED, TRANS, AUTO PROVISIONS, O/D . Was the tranny modified for O/D after built by GM??

Nope, it was OD from the factory...plain ol' 700 tranny.
The odd code description is just another way for GM to confuse us normal people.

Lookin under my 84 K10 truck I found what looked to be "GM33" on the passenger side and 14055251 on the driver side. On the RPO sites though, all I found was "GM3" which was a 3.45 gear ratio. Is that right? The only sticker I got in the glovebox is camper loading info. All other stickers are gone.
