i just acquired a 1986 chev 1/2 ton silverado truck, the tranny appears to be a th350,the shift indicator is simply 1,2,then D,with no circle around the D.i thought by 1986 all autos were overdrive??It shifts twice only, from 1st to 2nd to 3rd,thats it but it has a 2 wire plug just above the pan on the drivers side, whats this for??At 65 MPH the engine is turning pretty high rpms(no tach but i can tell)Pan shape tells me its a 350 but was wondering if maybe it did originally have a lockup convertor, somebody HELP!!!!!!

it's a turbo 350 with lock-up converter.not all trucks came with overdrive i had a 1985 silverado 1/2 ton that had the same trans in it and it would wind up at about 65-70 mph

In the mid 80's most all the 350 trans were Lock-Up trans from the GM factory. If the Trans has 2 wire plug just above the pan on the drivers side, that the Lock-Up plug if the trans does not lock up you will burn more fuel. There is a different in converter's make sure you have the lockup converter for a lock up trans.
