I've got an 82 C30 with a strong-running 6.2 diesel has some serious body-rot problems, and some other issues. I've found an 87 C30 with a bad 454 for cheap locally, and am considering throwing my good engine and tranny into the newer truck, which seems to be in pretty nice shape. (see more about this in the Engines Forum)
My question: If I wanted to put an overdrive transmission in when I do the swap, which one should I choose? I'm primarily concerned about the heavy-duty nature of the truck and the torque of the diesel engine and want to make sure that whatever I use is as stout as what it replaces.
Part II: What should I expect to pay for such an animal, and what changes would be necessary (torque converter, electonics, etc...)?

There are a number of people who use the newer 4L80 in their trucks. A google search on "4L80 swap" would net you many links to read. Summit Racing also has controllers and other related accy's to make the swap go easier for you.
