First is it factory oil pressure gauge if it is, what year is it from the 73-77 mechanical gauge or 78-87 electric gauge. Or maybe your using after market mechanical gauge or electric gauge. Now did it work before you put in the new motor( the gauge). Did you make sure you hook the gauge up to the motor by the sending unit for the gauge you have and year or type gauge.
One way to check if your getting oil moving good. Is too take off the valve cover disconnect the distributor power plug get some one to crank the motor over a about 10-15 sec as you look to see if oil is coming up the push rods . as soon as you see oil get them to stop. If oil comes up then you should have some kinda pressure put valves back on. When the gauge has a tube this means it a mechanical gauge, wire it is a electric gauge, both have different sending unit. ( could be gauge connection or broken or tube bent or broken, wire cut or not hooked up, sending unit no good or back connection.
when you changed the oil did you change the oil filter too.
Is your carb set right does the carb smell like gas, does it look like it leaking fuel or giving fuel bye it's self. try checking these things . For the carb, fuel bowl setting to high, pump shot sticky or leaking maybe wore out, or dirt under the needle & seat or wore out.
When you got the new motor did the oil pan come with it and bolted on. If not did you make sure you oil pump pick up was on and set to right to height from the bottom of the pan.
Try checking these things .
