Yes you have to change the harness. Painless wiring has a stand alone plug and play harness for the tbi. the thing with the tbi is fuel milage. I hve them both and I like the fuel injection better. just because of the dependability. but it is up to you. remember u have to run a electronic fuel pump. I have a friend that used to work for painless. He can hook u up.

U can use an inline fuel pump. Is that 1.20 a gallon or did it jump up 1.20 a gallon more. cause if ur only at a 1.20 a gallon that is nice. We in texas are at 3.00 a gallon. I get alot better fuel milage in my 88 than I do in my 77 and they both have about the same stuff as in horsepower. They are the same trucks except for the bodystyle and one has carb and the other one tbi. They are both swb single cab 350 automatic trucks. In my 77 I am going to put a 96-98 vortec motor in her. I want the dependability out of her cause I go to shows alot. Most of the time she will be on a trailer but I do want to drive her when I want and know she will not break down and get good fuel milage. You can see mine under the photo album, (my 77 scottsdale) Is the thread. Nice talking to u.

My 2 cents if it's not too late...
I've had TBI and Vortec. If you're gonna go to the trouble of re-wiring, do it right and go straight to a Vortec 350. For that matter, you could probably put a Vortec 4.3 in it and have as much power as a TBI 350!!! I think the TBI is only rated somewhere around 200 horsepower.
