hi, on my 1975 350ci 5.7 L V8 gas engine i am changingthe place of the power steering pump from high in front of the engine to low (near the timing cover), because i am building the compressor where the power steering pump was. to be able to mount the steering pump low i need another bracket . the seller asks me if i have a short or long waterpump , this matters because of the belts and pulleys who need to be lined correctly. how can i see that i have a long or short water pump?

Well let see now. I bet you have a Long water pump, Now the long water pump was used on most small block Chev's trucks & cars from 73 up.
How to tell is the long water pump from the short water pump. The long pump taller nose cone, longer water passage( sits far-there from the block. The short pump sits closer to the block, the nose cone short.( "where the pulley goes")
"Shorter\ Longer" Water pump where it bolts to the block that the water passage that is Shorter\ Longer part.
Now I have not seen a factory short water pump on a SBC 305 to 400 motor yet . But if some one played with the pulleys or pump you could have a short pump. I hope this helps. Do you think you can tell what you got?
