hi guys, is this possible?: 1981 V8 engine 305 ci with 150hp 1975 V8 engine 350 ci with 145 hp i am totally not an expert on engines, i always thought that the higher the ci, the higher the hp, i guess i was wrong?... maybe it is because in 1981 they built already better engines that could give you 150 hp with only a 305 ci?...

That 350 would be low compression motor small cam, reast pistons most likely no valves reliefs & 2bbl= (2 carb) 2" or 2" 1\4 exhaust, 76cc heads, heads most likely 882 casting's .Oh that light duty or passenger car. HP's 145,150,165,175, would have been the low end fuel savers side. The power side would have been 195 up from factory. Well it all in the combo set up & parts used.
The 305 in 81 lighter cars & trucks better cam still light duty or passenger car. So really the motor would have been about the same just a little less Hp because of the newer emission that came in bye 83 -84 hp start to gain a bit. The engine's also were rate differently in the in 78 and up.

Oh I would switch from a 2BBL carb to a 4BBL carb on any 305 & up motor to save fuel & get better hp. As long as you do not open the rear butterfly's and drive easy, you will get better gas mileage over the 2BBL.
