So I have a 73 k10 with a later model 350 (passenger side dipstick... I can get engine #s if needed.) I have been having some engine troubles.. Here's the scenario....
Engine was 90% together when I bought it.
Had to install ex, valve covers, hoses, rad, etc. Minor stuff.
Quick once over of rockers when I installed valve covers.. All seemed to be adjusted with proper lash.
First week I was driving it, I heard what I thought was a lifted collapse.. Ran rough ticked loudly and because I have full dual ex I could tell it cam from pass side. As I limped it home it suddenly went away and ran fine, always had good oil pressure.. When I got home pulled cover, everything is kosher.
Last week I was driving and same thing happened again except this time it did not get better. So after work I pulled pass cover and found #4 intake and exhaust rockers off and ex push rod was bent. So I figured it was a bad lifter. Got some new ones and a few push rods. Replaced them, noticed that the studs had pulled out of the head a bit.. Drove them back in..did the book specified adjustment and installed my cut-out cover for further adjustment. When I fired the engine up the oil coming out of the #4 in. Pushrod had so much pressure it was firing a solid stream of oil over the side of the fender for about 15 feet. I ran into the truck to shut it off and noticed the oil pressure was at about 90psi and now that I think about it it never really drops below 80..
Here's the ?s.
Is this psi too high?
Could this damage my motor.
Is it possible the valves weren't adj properly and with so much pressure the lifters bottomed out the valves, caused the rocker to pull the stud a bit.
Also my dad pointed out to me that the tip of the studs that had worked out a bit looked different than the others? Can these be replaced.
Lastly if this psi is abnormal what could cause it... Plugged port.. Filter?
Thanks in advance for any info.
