Hey all. My name's Darcy, and I'm the owner of a 1985 Chevy POS (C-10, actually). I bought this truck last april from a guy in my unit, and I obviously had no idea what I was getting into. Or maybe I did. This thing's got about 8" of lift on it, a 350 clanking around under the hood, a modified (3-speed?) transmission, two tailpipes sticking out the back that are so huge I can fit my arm to the elbow inside of 'em and more rust than the bulkheads of the Titanic. The odo and speedo don't work, my hubs (automatic lock) for 4WD are shot/stripped, I got no fan shroud, and I'm missing part of my bellhousing that covers the flywheel... so it's easy to see that my rear main is busted, 'cause every time I drive the dag nabbit thing, oil sprays all over the underside of my oil pan and block. My brakes need workin' on, and my power steering pump definitely has had better days. Also, one of my belts are either too tight or too loose, 'cause she squeaks more obnoxiously than Fran Drescher with a head cold every now and then. Other than that, it's a pretty good truck, I think. My dad always said, you get what you pay for, and in all honesty, I only paid $500 bucks for it. tinypic.com/view/?pic=e9b2onThat's before I added new shocks, and ripped that ugly bugdeflector off. Any advice for a first time truck owner?

one of the first things to do is go through and change all of the fluids, (front rear diffs, motor oil, trans and transfer case, flush out radiator, ect..) and basically look everything over to see where problems may be at. from the pic looks like you gota good project with endless possiblities, and by the way welcome to the site man

looks like a great project. like the last post change all of the fluids and filters on your truck. then start at one end doing what needs to be done mechanically
