I got a problem with my head light/ park lights. When I turn the headlights on the park lights work but when I turn the bright lights on the park lights go out. I took the dash apart to see if I could find something wrong and I found that the big red wire that plugs in to the headlight switch had been cut and someone had run a smaller wire from the switch to the junction block on the fire wall. I checked the big red wire for power but it is dead so that is why they spliced the other wire to the switch. I found a jumper wire that is run from the back of the driver side headlight to the park light so the park lights come on when the headlights are on. Now is the switch bad and that is why they did this or is there something else wrong?
The big red wire that has been cut has no power to it so where should I look to find why it is powerless? I checked all the fuses and they are good but I'm not sure where this big red wire goes to. Should I pull the harness apart and chase the big red wire down or should I start somewhere else?

Sorry about the wait. OK the red wire goes to the battery junction box on the fire wall. now 87 there is a lot of wiring that is a little bit different from the 81-86 one is the light switch. I going to try to show wire sheet for the 87 but I can e-mail it to you and you can zoom in to see it better. Colors are listed on the sheet IE. RED, TAN, WHT=white, GRN=green, BRN=brown,ORN=orange,BLK=black,YEL=yellow, PNK=pink, PPL=purple, GRY=gray,BLU=blue,Lt.GRN=light green, Lt. BLU= light blue, PNK/BLK= pink & black ( pink with a black strip) and so on. I may take these down in time If I run out room on the site for space if you need it message me about them.

I thinking that one of the wires from the high beam switch might be broken or the switch is not working right/ turn single/ wiper switch.

Thank you very much, That was a big help. What I found was that there was a bad power wire that goes to the starter. Once I fixed that wire and hooked up the main power wire to the light switch, It started to work. I think that the wire they had going to the switch was to little.
