HEI conversion OK how do I wire the HEI distributor to replace the point distributor? You need about 3 feet of 12 guage wire, and a crimp-on female connector use heat srink tubing or to make sure wire sealed.
Disconnect the NEG battery cable. Crimp on the connector to the wire again use heat srink tubing or to make sure wire sealed and plug in to the BATT terminal on the distributor. ( after it's installed in the motor of course )
Run the wire through the firewall through one of the existing holes make sure there is grommet there put one. ( the oil sender line is a good choice ) On the ignition switch, locate the PINK wire. Splice the HEI wire into the pink ignition wire use tape or heat srink tubing or to make sure wire sealed . Connect the negative battery cable. Your Done.
Use a crimp-on splicer for the pink to HEI splice. If you use a hand type splice then make sure you wrap the splice tight in electrical tape or use heat srink tubing.
Oh HEI works best with Changing the plug gap to .045
NOW you are done ! I was working on a friend's car. Thinks this has come up or asked about hear & there. for the 73-74 trucks that would like HEI for easier tune up's. So I thought throw this out there.
