hi everyone, i have installed a tilt steering column in my 1980 gmc sierra . it used to have a non tilt steering column.everything electrical hooked right up, no problem, but the ignition switch. i know how to mount it, and that this little iron hook has to click in the switch( that iron hook is connected with the ignition switch where you put your key in).problem is that if i put the iron hook in the switch that is mounted on my steering column, i can turn my key forward, no problem and i also hear the clicking sounds coming from that switch where the iron hook s in , but i can not turn the key back to the "lock " position , its like coming just a little to short, because of that i can not remove my key. i have tested that turning keyhole by unhooking that little rod out of the ignition switch mounted on my steering column and by doing that i have no problem turning the key completely forward or backwards. before i start messing with that ignition switch i rather ask it here first. is there a difference in these switches tilt or non tilt?

First What YR. steering column did you use . The second thing is that if your ignition switch (lock) worked good with no problems I would put it in try it. All most sounds like you have to much wear on the other one. If not is the rod for the column that came with the one you got bent.?
If that does not work then does the tilt work good and smooth. Every thing put it the right place and not bent.

the tilt works good and smooth, this is the steering column it is a 79-80 steering wheel.(came from a blazer) everything worked good, but i couldn't turn the swith far enough to "lock". i tried a little too hard until i got it in "lock " (because i wanted to get the key out) and when i got it in lock ,i can't get it out anymore
