I have a 77 1/2 with dual tanks that i just bought. my fuel gage stopped working so i started to trouble shoot. the gage stopped at 1/4 tank when i flipped the tank nothing happened. i followed the fuel line and couldn't find the selector valve just a wire and three holes in the frame where something was supposed to be. I then noticed what looks like my driver side tank is connected to the pass. side. I don't think there were designed that way, so what do i do. i don't know if the driver tank is connected to a return line, can i just put the valve in and reconnect the lines, is there supposed to be return lines? i just need some help. Thanks

Some of these trucks had return lines and some don't. It mostly depends on the type of fuel pump you are using. If the pump has a return outlet then you need one, if not then no. But yes you can get a new valve and put it back in and hook the lines up right. Sounds like someone tried to tie the 2 tanks together, which does not work without a way to pump the fuel from one tank to the other.
