my friends and i were talking and the idea of using a newer chevy vortec heads on an older chevy motor. i just dont know if it would work using fuel injected heads and changing them over to be used in conjunction with a carborator any information as to if this idea would work would be greatly appreciated josh

[glow=black,2,300] It should work,My buddy did it on his S-10 with a 350. He just had to get a intake for the vortec heads and new vortec valve covers...I think the intake he bought was an air gap by edelbrock. It really screamed. [/glow]

There are a number of intake manufacturers that offer carb intakes for the Vortec heads.
The Vortec heads are an improvements over even the old Hi-Po factory castings. They flow VERY well, and respond well to polishing, they don't need to be ported to flow better, in fact I've read that it may actually hurt their performance.

This is true. I have spoke to a very respected engine shop close by here. They stated that the heads work awsome out of the box and tha porting them will hinder performance. Its best to run them like they are, or maybe some mild polishing work.
