I have a '73 GMC 1/2 ton with a little sag in the drivers door. I am able to close the door just fine, but , It does sag a little and the gap is noticeable. I have replacement door pins and bushings, but I need help on how do I replace them, Do I have to remove the door itself to do it ? Or can it be done anotherway? Any special tools to get the pin out ? Thanks for any feedback.

You should be able to pound the pins out with a hammer one hinge at a time. Use a 2x4 and a jack to hold the weight of the door while you are working on it.

You know i tried to use a hammer on my pins and it just flattened the ends of my pins and they won't come out! LOL ! now I guess I will just have to cut them in half and pull them out that way.

Ya, I thought of doing something like that but wasn't sure if I could get a hammer in there. Obviously all I have done is look at it so far LOL. The parts shop here only had one new pin in stock so I am waiting til they get more in which will be in a week or so. The bottom pin I noticed quite a bit of slack when I move the door up and down which is why it moves up and down, hopefully the new bushing with the new pin will hold it up nice and staight. Will keep in touch how it goes .

Alright I've re-done and restored four trucks now, and I've had this problem with all except one, the hinges and pins just get worn out from use. Thing is sometimes it's not the pin that wears it's the hinges, sometimes it's both, in which case putting in a new pin does jack. What I've done is just simply changed the whole hinge bracket. Getting the pin out with a hammer I've found to be almost impossible because they're seelled to the bracket, they will come off, but you'll either end up ruing the existing bracket, or if you do get them out, you'll usually find out like I said earlier that the pin isn't the only problem. You may want to consider just removing the whole door changing what you need to change, whether it be pins or just hinges and then put the door back on and aline the hinges and the door to the ideal spot. You can get brand new hinge assemblies if you want, or the junk-yard works VERY well, just find a door with hinges that don't wiggle and bobble when you move the door. Just my 2 cents, take it or leave, it make no difference, no hard feelings.

Great info, and that's what we're here for! I've done 3 of my own trucks, and I was VERY forutunate to have been able to do it simply with a hammer. As for worn hinges, I'm a bit picky about some things, and have always changed out the pins and bushings as soon as they got a little loose. There was not enough time for the bushings to completely wear through and damage the hinge itself. Thanks for the additional info Joey, it's always welcome here.

I have the same problem with my truck and I am just going to buy a new set of door hinges from LMC Truck they have them for only $25 each I think it would be easier to simply replace the enitre hinge then to just fool around with the pin and a used hinge.

If anyone is interested, i found a page about quick release door pins I think I'm gonna do that since my truck doesn't hardly ever need doors LOL.

Or if its like my old Chevy, one of the hinges or doors could be cracked. May need some welding. Not a bad idea to put some heavier chunks of steel in the door to better support the weight.

I had to cut the pins out and just got new ones from LMC. Body man just put it all back together. Probably saved time and sweat.
