My '78 Big ten has the bodyside moldings that are shiny with black painted centers. I was looking at them the other day, and here and there they are coming off of it. I only saw pan head screws at some of ends of moldings and in between those, it looks like the rest of the way, they are attached with rubber blocks and double sided tape. Is this factory or are they supposed to be attached with clips? Sure makes truck prettier with them on the truck than laying on highway somewhere Moldings are unattached below fuel caps. Thanks for reading and helping ........Larry

I though you would know this one. Yes there plastics square clips with two side it tape try any of your old body supplier ppl =(people )or LMC trucks parts the fender all spring clips & screws the doors most of them are the two side tape & clips one screw at the front end top and bottom if you have full trim, the side of the box should be all most set up like the doors If I remember right now. Oh they made them in only two colors black like yours or Yellow.Trim wise, 1977 was the only year to have a yellow/gold stripe
I think the gas door should be spring clips with nuts ( all the spring clips have nuts)
I think I still have one left yellow top door trim still with all but one clip, there some times hard to get off with out breaking take your time. ;D there putting you on the spot. You got any trick on taking them off that I do not know. So that other will like to know since I do not use them.

The ones with two sided tape can be removed with heat gun on low. If you can get to the backside of metal, then heat from backside while gently pulling away from area. I don't know what type paint you have, but if it is factory baked paint, wax and grease remover applied liberally with a 1 inch paint brush over top side of molding adhesive area should do the trick, use a yellow plastic filler spreader to loosen molding.

I've thought about replacing mine too and thought it may be a good idea to find a vinyl graphics shop and have them duplicate the trim. Guy I talked to quoted me a price of $200 for the whole job. Some of the samples he showed me looked awesome and would not be a rust trap like stock trim.

That can work for some PPL =(people) not a bad Idea for some PPL. It really depends what you like. The factory or just the factory look.
** 1978 was the first year i think for the gas door on the box did a little looking around.I have seen a few with the older style but not sure if they changed there box.** A Friend had a 1978 box on his truck you could see the place the door went, but his door was broken. Not sure what month then started to make it **
** New info found. The 1975 GMC Gentleman Jim had this trim color as well.ONLY** So this might date of when the box was made early or later.

I read somewhere, I think Chucks chevy trucks? That early 1978's had external caps and later ones (when GM switched to unleaded gas) had gas doors added. Chuck has an awful lot of good info on his site, including all gear and engine combinations for most trucks in the years of 1973 - 1987. But then again I also read that my 350cui was built to run on leaded or unleaded.
