I would like to put a "new" bed on my 77 3/4 ton. Does the newer 87-97 body style fit on the frame? Seems to me like it's easier to find the newer style, since the vast majority of older ones are completely rusted out. The ones in good shape usually cost more than I have in the whole truck. The bed on mine currently isn't that rusty, it's just totally beat up...not really worth all the sheetmetal work it would take to make it right (in my opinion). Let me know your thoughts...am I just wasting time on this idea? Any pictures of a truck done this way?

ive seen a 72' chevy with that year bed on, apparently they are the same width but i know for a fact that 73-87 chevys are the widest trucks out there, wider than 88-99

The 73-80 LWB has the gas opening on the passenger side ( single tank)
The 81-87 LWB has the gas opening on the driver side ( single tank)
Other then that they fit OK . Now as
"ottaway" has said the 88-98 are not as wide as the 73-87 . Now the
the boxes from the 73-87 bolt all together, sides- inner wells- outer bed
tubs- floor- front sheet- . So if your is good in the places like the that
tail gate side they pretty much sell all most every thing make it like a
new box. Even if you can get a cheap box with good floor & tail gate side,
it will be mostly cheaper in the long run.
