I can pick up a 350 with an auto trans out of a ex police 1990 caprice but will it bolt and wire in fairly easy? I have an 86 3/4 ton GMC with a 292ci and 4 speed on the floor. I was thinking of using the engine and maybe looking for a 5 speed tranny, any tips?I was a junky a$$ f@#d guy and don't have any experience with chevys yet except for my sons Monte Carlo but that was just a top end rebuild, thanks.

Yes it will bolt in fairly easily. IIRC it will bolt right to the bellhousing you have. I'm not 100% on that so check it out first, but if you have to the correct one is a dime a dozen. Hooking up the fuel injection is more complicated. If you want to keep it simple, you might go with a carb setup.

Bolt pattern is the same, I did the same swap in my 77 4x4 years ago.
Just a few things to work around like P/S lines and such are shorter on the V8. Even the engine mounts lined up for me...
