hey,
...off course this thread is for everyone but i guess people who drive a 1987 chevy or gmc pick up with the stock A/C setup will be able to help me out best..
the airconditioning parts i bought years ago are from a 1987 chevy pick up , my truck is a 1980 and it didn't have airconditioning. so, i had(have) to puzzle my way into the setup. a lot of the parts installed very well like the" under the hood "plastic box with dryer and everything on it,under the dash the other big black plastic box with the vent outlets and everything mounted fine as well. now, let's start with the questions.
-question 1: can you tell me exactly how many vacuum bulbs i need? i have the following ones:one under the dash close to the radio:
i have a vacuum bulb inbetween the black box under the dash and the firewall, that's a hard one to reach but here's a pic:
My third bulb is on the passengers side , the kick panel(don't mind the red arrow just yet!):
i know there should be (i guess, lol) a bulb in the hood cowl, right there where you see the three lil' holes:
Can anybody sell me the one that goes in the hood cowl,(the last one with the holes) it should come with a bracket, i have never seen how it looks like though...
the last one is probably the one in the engine bay, mine looks like this:
-is that the correct one for a 1987 , i know there is a "ball shaped" one too.or doesn't that matter?
-is mine hanging correctly ? with the hole on top and the pins downward? look at the pics:
hole up:
pins down:
or doesn't that matter??
-two pins on that bulb to connect thin plastic tubings on:
one that comes from the temp switch, being a grey and black colored thin plastic kinda tube in one hole.
one that leads a black same kinda thin plastic tube to somewhere , but where too?see pic:
that thin tube has been cut by the one who sold the vacuum bulb to me, but where does it lead to? i guess i'm gonna have to buy a new one, a longer one?..and... does it matter where the black/grey and the black thin plastic tube are connected on that bulb?
ok, almost there, lol!
question 2: the colors of the plastic tube wires to the vacuum bulbs.
-can anybody tell me how all the plastic thin tubes are connected to the vacuum bulbs? they all come from the electric temperature switch and run to the several vacuum bulbs to give heat, cold, A/C etc...
here's a pic of the starting point, its connected on the back of the elec. temp. switch:
Can anybody show me a picture of the temperature switch of a 1987 !!
here's mine, a 1980, with A/C but i guess it doesn't fit because the electrical connection plugs of my 1987 A/C setup are different! here's a pic of my 1980 temp.switch, look at the elec. plugs.
now, take a look at the 1987 A/C electrical connections, that are supposed to go on the temp. switch, you'll see tthey are wider!:
so, if i'm right about having the wrong elec. temp. switch, is there anyone selling a 1987 model one ??
Ok, back to the plastic tubings...
there is an orange and black, a really long tubeing, which i guess runs to the passenger side kick panel vacuum bulb, but it has a junction which in my opinion will lead to the vacuumbulb in the hood cowl(which i don't have...). check out the pics:
you can see that in the second picture the tubing has a rubber grommet , what makes me think that it leads outside... but can anybody tell me where it goes out of the truck to the vacuum bulb in the cowl?
last question:
about the black and grey tubing.this one should like lead from the elec. temp. switch to the vacuum bulb under the hood.but the one i got has like been fiddled with, its junctions and probably self made extensions or something ...
check out the pics:
anybody has any idea what's up with that? and whats that special connection at the red arrow in the pic?
i know this is a long thread but it's a bit complicated, lol!
hey, thanks in advance for reading it all! hopefully someone can help me out!
thank you
Kurt
