I have lived right next door in Mississippi all my life and it's fairly relaxed down here. I lived in California for 2 years when I was in the Navy and they are as strict as it comes when dealing with exhaust/emissions and stuff. MS (and AL as far as I know) does no emissions checks. It just can't be too loud (Flowmasters should be fine; loud glasspacks might get you pulled over), but as long as nobody has messed with the catalytic converter you should be alright. Most cops here say they have to be able to see your license when they hold it up to the tint or it's too dark. But I don't think that's the way the law is written. I don't know about the heigth stuff, but a buddy of mine got pulled over in Louisiana with some big, big (almost monter truck) tires, but I think they were more concerned with the width. Down here in the country you shouldn't have much of a problem. I don't know exactly what search lights you mean, but KC lights and such are fine. Other than that some liability insurance and an inspection sticker (no broken windshield, lights/blinkers work; MS is $5) and you'll be rolling. I know this info applies mostly to Mississippi, but maybe it will help atleast give you an idea.

thanks for the information by "search lights"(post mount spotlight) i mean the kind the popo also has next to their windshield, it's controlled from inside... i don't have a catalyctic converter... i guess it wasn't done in 1980 trucks... i have glass packs , they came with the true duall exhaust setup , i can a sell them before use and change them into flowmasters when i mount the exhaust piping.thanks for the tip! truck on!

Hey Kurt, I know the 1980 3/4 ton trucks weren't equipped with catalytic converters.GM raised the GVWR to 8600 lbs for 1980, so they could get around the the epa's 8500 lb and below requirement.Hopefully Al. doesn't have an emissions test! They might make you put on the cats if they do. Good luck.
