Hey Guys my engine is a 69 350 and it has the V-Belt setup and I am having problems with it throwing the alternator belt of at high RPM the belt looks straight, I want to check better tomorrow. Could it be just because it is a old belt?

My belt stretched and flew off before and it looked like nothing was wrong...maybe that's it.

Yeah I replaced my belt today before I left work, Drove home no problem, I never got going real fast but when I was about 2 Mins. from my house I kicked it in real good and it stayed on so maybe it fixed it!

Many times a misaligned belt bracket can cause these problems.

Somethiing to think about next time your scavaging the parts yards. I have an 86 silverado that came from the factory with a wide, almost like serpentine belt, that goes around the water pump crank and alternator. This could help prevent it from happening again. I think Don told me its a multi rip belt.

Yep, the 86-87's smallblocks (both cars and trucks) had a belt that was routed like the regular V belts, but used a wide 5 or 6 rib belt like a serpentine belt on the crank -> water pump -> alt. The power steering used its' own separate belt.
It was called a Multi-Rib belt.
Even a slight misalignment of the belt can cause it to jump off at higher RPMs. Also, be sure you are using the correct width belt for your pulleys. A wider belt will not sit down in the grooves far enough to keep it from getting flung off.
