I don't know if this is the right area to post this, but, I see others doing it, so it must be okay. I need a new brake master cylinder, and there seems to be a million different ones for my truck year. Some info: I have 1978 C10 Big 10, vacuum for my power brake booster comes from the intake , not the power steering, I have 11" X 2" REAR BRAKES and power front disc brakes. I have the 350cui. gas engine and TH350 auto tranny, and the truck is 2wd. Also the truck is 8ft. fleetside, standard cab. I see that there are numerous 'Service Parts I.D.'s.....JB3,JB5,JB1....jd3, jd5, jd6, are these #'s located on sticker inside glovebox? I have seen no reference to these numbers there, or am I reading it wrong? How do I tell which bore I have in my cylinder without taking it apart, I need this info asap, as cylinder is getting worse every day, NOT A FLUID LEAK! With constant foot pressure on pedal after I stop, pedal slowly leaks down, but when I take foot off and step on it again, the pedal comes right back up. I need help, I know how to change the cylinder and bleed my system, just don't know where to find the info. thanks in advance.......Larry

well most likley you have a jb3 system the jb5 system has 11 x 2 1\4 or 3/4 i don't remember off the top of my head the jd5 system is hydro boost you can find this system mostly in factory big blocks and diesels.so jb is vacuum and jd is hydro boost.and the # is in the glove box about 4rows from the left and half way down.

OK that sound about right as said but to check you will have to try under the dash or take it out hope the sticker is still there or there is stamping on the back.
That sticker if yours is the one I was talking about I see they did not put a big list of the stuff you got on the truck it's not to bad some times they did not put that much. The only other thing is to send away for a history sheet from GM. I do not have a GM Parts Book MANUAL , to check part # option right now. Are you getting a GM one or after market manufacture made for GM. For the second one, if you ask one of your good auto parts places in your area. You should find out what they replace for factory. you will need make, model, auto, power brakes or not , brakes size, 4x2 or 4x4, C10,C15 / C20,C25, Motor. that should be most of the info they need maybe the Vin for the parts guy. Oh another thing try a junk yard see if they have the old book to cross check with GM parts A hollander book

I was just informed by Murray's discount auto parts that the jd's are for hydroboost and the JB's are for vacuum assisted boosters. They gave me cardone part number of 101521- 15.99 plus tax. does that sound right to you all?

I will get full pic tomorrow, I do have full pic in my album, here at my house, but will do another. Drove thirty miles to friends house and we changed cylinder in 45 minutes, then bled brakes. Like new again, new cylinder does not leak down. Also put two new fuel caps on and new crankcase cap ( oil fill cap ) and tomorrow am going to take cover off rearend that I want to purchase to see if we can find out gear ratio, if it is bigger than mine, I can have whole rear axle and springs for 100 bucks. BTW, I managed to get blood from a rock ( IRA ) I don't like doing that but, my safety is more important, too bad my wife doesn't understand that. I told her today that when she rides with me, she is safer also. Thanks for all the input and info, guys. Master cylinder was only 14.99, fuel caps 10.39 each, booster check valve 3.99, and oil filler cap 2.99, labor of a very good longtime friend ( 35 years knowing each other ) PRICELESS.......
