Hello:
New to chevy Pickups. Need to lower my son's '78 C10, short bed, step side. Spindle makers ask for either 1" or 1.25" width rotors to match up correct spindles.
I expected this little truck, plain jane no frills, 250 L6 with 3 on the tree, to have light duty rotors, which I assumed are the 1".
But we measured both sides! to find 1.25's stock. Does this make sense to those that have more time in with Chevies?
Also, I've read that BellTech's drop spindles widen the front track a half inch each side from stock. But McGaughly's or DJM's retain stock width. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Yup were gonna slap a SM465 4spd behind that 250 L6 and get us some hotrod parts for it and keep it. I love 6 bangers. If my son wants big power he's gonna have to make it on his own.
Thank you, Steve

I too am looking into the drop setup...were did you find your information about the widened track? I really don't want to widen especially with 20" tires we have installed.
How does your "6" run? we finally bailed out of the "6" after getting frustrated with poor gas mileage and lack of any power, not to mention the mono-jet nightmare carb!!!! I hope you have better luck!
I ended up finding a rusted junker that had a pretty fresh v/8.... making the swap and selling the junker with the old 6 for a $1,000 profit!! That paid for a new edelbrock carb, intake, and lots of other cheap small block goodies!
Enjoy the project with your kid! I have never had such a great time with my son, we have had a blast! lots of late nights, some tears, but mostly happy bruised knuckles, cut arms, and many memory making hours!
Good Luck!

Hi:
Some folks on the fullsize chevy forum said BellTech's widen the track 1/2" each side. But that discussion was for a later model. Thought I'd ask if anyone knew if that was the case for 73-87's.
The truck isn't running! I like 6's though. That Chevy 250 has a good track record, been around a long time. We're hunting down a non-intergrated head for it, so we can have some intake and exhaust options in the future.
Started out with a old '52 junky a$$ f@#d pickup with a 223 inline 6. Got 20 mpg uphill, downhill, loaded or unloaded didn't matter. Now I have a '94 junky a$$ f@#d 4x4 with a 300 inline 6 and get between 17 and 19 depending on the fuel. Winter fuel with alcohol blended in gives poorer mileage. Yeah, I'm a junky a$$ f@#d guy, but admit these old Chevy's are pretty cool!
Take Care, Steve

it's not really a question of strip down truck or silverado it's it's the brake set up from factory.check the glove box for a sticker there will be a series of letters and numbers these are factory options codes find one that say's jb3 or jb5....the jb3 is the light duty brake system which uses 1'rotors and the jb5 uses 1 1/4' rotors.if by chance you have jb6 don't worry it uses 1 1/4 rotors also the differance is the booster[hydro boost]hope this helps.
