ok im not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes. does anyone know how much of a difference there is between the frames of the 1/2 ton- 1 ton. im talking about the material used and the thickness. from my understanding they are were made using the same material and the same thicknesses. but im not to sure. im asking because in the future id like to drop a cummins in my chevy and i want to know if my half ton frame will be able to handle it or if i should find a 1 ton frame. and advice would sure be appreciated.

First what year are you working with 2wd or 4wd 73-80 or 81-87. Now there is a different from them73-80 to 81-87 1/2 Ton is not much . The big differences are the frames are little thicker 3/4 Ton would be closer to a 1 ton .But it's the extra cross braces and heaver suspension that the main difference . There a big difference from 2wd and 4wd frame & suspension. The 4wd frame is heaver duty then the 2wd. if you want a really heavy duty frame get a Arm truck frame they are all 1ton1/4 only the Army trucks came that way. The body mounts change from 73-80 from 81-87. The 73-80 frames have thicker and a few more cross braces . hope this helps a little or shed a little light on this.
