I'm not really knowledgable at all about transmissions, but to take my beast to the shop and have a slew of mechanics tell me that they couldn't identify what kind of tranny I have scares me a little.
Anyone got any tips to help me identify what I'm running?
'tis a three speed with granny gear.. that's about all I know.

Likely a 3spd Saginaw.
Is it on the column (3 in the tree)? or is it floor shifted with a pattern of either L-1-2-3? Or 1-2-3?
A few more details are needed...

You probably have the same Tranny I do Muncie 465 Creeper gear 4spd It is the standard H pattern with low/granny gear where 1st would normally be and 3rd where 4th would be etc. The SM465 is an outstanding, heavy-duty truck transmission designed and used in ½, 3/4 and 1+ ton trucks. The SM465 was made by General Motors from 1968 to 1991. Below is a pic of the Muncie SM 465

That describes my tranny to a tee, Blue! Thanks a lot... I'm definitely going to check up on it.
