Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know I finally got another truck! I have been regretting selling my '77 SB/SS for a long time, and ended up buying an '86 Longbed tonight. Plans are to use it to tow the race car around next season, as the current truck is a bit on the small side...('01 2wd S-10) - 305 on propane since brand new - TH350 trans - 3.08's 275,000 km's and runs like brand new, not one single tick out of the engine at all... Here's several pics taken just after I pulled it into the driveway... This truck is very sound mechanically, but needs a good body job to make it all good. A steal of a deal at $300 CDN...

That is a very good deal for 300 bucks Don. It should serve the purpose well. With a long bed you'll have plenty of room to hual everything you need to the track also. :drive: :rocking:

The propane tank is inside the bed at the front, and MAN is it huge....the range must be 1000 miles on a fill up....lol. It takes up about 2' of bed space, which isn't too bad because I'm used to the 6' box on my old truck....lol.

What kind of power does the propane put out? Is it the same as gas, more or less?

It's the first propane powered vehicle I've owned, so it's difficult to do a good comparison. And the truck has 275,000 on it... I'd probably say it's a tiny bit less power than a 4bbl 305, but worth it in fuel savings. If the truck gets the same MPG as a gasoline version, it's still almost half the fuel cost. Propane = $.44/litre Gas = $.80/litre

Here's a few pics to update the thread... I've been busy getting the bodywork cleaned up and ready for paint...(still not sure on the orange...LOL) RS cab corner installed.... RS wheel opening repair panel installed..... RS door cut off and bad section removed..... Yep...not worth fixin' Just replace it..... All welded in, and back on the truck..... Just a little bit of fiberglass filler on the seams, and we should be ready to go. Work left to do... - Both inner fenders - LS fender - LS door full skin (it's rotted out above the door handle) - New tailgate

Well, the entire RS in all fixed up. Any panel seams, or rust scabs were sandblasted, and filled with fiberglass filler. A quick 3-coat primer job is applied over everything. The left side is next, then the LS box pillar, and a new tailgate.

Looking good Don keep it up. Wish I could do that much with my truck, I suck at body work.

So do I...ROFLMAO!
It may only look fine from 50' away, but the rust will be gone, so it should live longer....

MIne don't even look good from 50 feet ;D. But it is very dependable. I have rebuilt or replaced almost every mechanical part on it. So it may look bad but I can drive her anywhere. :drive:

Short update to catch up on what's been happening.... I removed the near nonexistant old inner fender housings and replaced them with new aftermarket pieces. They were $81 CDN, in total for the pair. Nice and cheap. 8) I scrubbed the tops down with a Scotchbrite pad, and painted them with gloss black rust paint. Once they were installed, I sprayed an entire can of rubberized under coating on each fender to help guard against stone chips. Here's a pic of old and new, these are the LS ones, the RS one was worse, lol .....

Here's the last post until the paint gets done next summer. All the bodywork is done, I have to buy a tailgate, and get everything painted next spring. I had an issue with the engine, wiped 2 lobes right off the cam, and barely made it home one night. I dropped in a good used cam (19,000 km's on it) with the set of lifters that were mated to their original lobes. It runs like a new truck now, TONS more power, and GREAT fuel milage. I have since put a set of cab lights on, but didn't take a pic of them....LOL Here's the whole truck in primer.
