hey guys, has anyone changed the transfer case to be able to shift into 4 wheel drive, like a newer chevy? my friend has a '93 and he can shift it in and out of 4 wheel under 30 mph without the whole, stopping, putting in neutral, shifting, driving, stopping, neurtral, shift out, back up for twenty feet or so..... any thoughts on upgrades?

This would be up to the after market companies to do some thing like GM did to the case they made a shift motor to bolt to the case that works off a little electric power for a button. Any thing can be done if you spend enough money time. Maybe there is one shop that does something like that But I do not know Maybe some of the other 4x4 owners can say.

what transfer case is in a '93 1500? which one is in my '83 k10? and, what makes it different from ours/our setup? i'm not a mechanic, so, I really don't know. I thought that maybe I could just buy the newer transfer case that allowed for shifting on the fly, but, you're saying thats not the "case"?

That might work if the splines are all the same I am not sure but I think the shift works with the CPU on board when it drops speed RPM it shifts at min and a max point for safety I sure that some of the 4x4 guys here can tell you more of what types or years but the 93 new case has been made to house the little electric motor on the case as the older 73-87 did not. but trading parts knowing what part will work fit you can do a lot . But 4x 4 are not my expertise unless it body parts motor parts that enter change between 4x2's and 4x4's, I know the 4x2's much better.

the differential on the 73-87 pickups is on the opposite side from the 90's. the switch of transfer cases wouldnt work unless you switched up the front drive train
