I have a 79 C10 Diesel and I want to swap it over to a Gas engine. Does anybody know what I can put in it without changing the tranny? ? In 79 they used a 5.7L Olds. Diesel in the 1/2 ton trucks, not the 6.2 Chevy

From what I remember, the 6.2 uses the standard chevy bellhousing pattern. You should be able to drop in any chevy SB or BB and fiddle with the rest of the accessories to make it work.
I did a 6.2 to 350 swap many years ago, but the details escape me now. I don't remember having to replace the TH400 tranny...

I think you're right.
The diesel would have a lower stall speed than one for a gas engine. It would bolt up, but not function properly.

[glow=limegreen,2,300]I only know from experience Don, as this is the setup I am currently running in my truck that I forgot I did and is probably the cause of the no shift into third anymore that I asked for help with a while ago [/glow]

yea the torque converter would be the only concern that Im aware of. Never done the 6.2 to 350 swap though. But I imagine it would be any different from pullling any other motor out of thses trucks. They are just so easy to work on compared to other vehicles.
