If you have a basicaly stock engine and looking to get more power out of it, then here are a few tips.
If your engine is running a lower compression ratio, like 8.5:1 or less, then a cheap way to get more power and better gas milage would be to get a set of remanufactored heads from Auto Zone, CAST # 041-186 closed chamber series, which are the same as the "camel hump" performance heads that Chevy put out. These heads do have the accessory holes in them. They are the replacement heads for a '69 Corvette 350. For $300 bucks a pair plus core you can have a set to bolt on to your engine. Most engines have "open" or 76cc combustion chambers, these are "closed" or 64cc heads. They will increase compression almost one piont, in return building more power and also increasing gasmilage. If your hand with tools, you can port them some before installing to help increase the flow.
Another idea, more of an improvement over increase in power, you can get a remanufactored Quadrojet carberator from a '74 Chevy truck 1/2 ton 2wd without heavy duty suspension for $106.99 plus core. Its almost as cheap to replace them then rebuild them if you look for the right parts off the right years.
I am by no means trying to promote Auto Zone, just piont out that if you look for the parts online and look for different years you CAN find parts, even the factory performance parts cheaper then the original replacement parts. These prices are specificly for for louisiana so they may very for different locations.
As I run across other parts to inhance the performance of our engines for a cheap price I will keep posting them.
