Hi all, it's me again. ;D I just got back from looking at another rea axle assembly, this time it is from a 1978 C10 light duty pickup. It has the 12 bolt cover, and I marked the yoke on the rear end with a paint stick line, and marked a line on the tire, I spun the wheel and the other guy watched the yoke. The yoke went around 1 and 3/4 times to one time with wheel. What is the ratio, the other guy thinks it would be a 2:53? The #'s on his right axle tube are weakly struck, as far as we can make out, they are as follows..... K A S 270W81, I find no definition for the K at tha beginning of the sequence. By the way, the box and cab are off the chassis, makes things alot easier. He wants 100.00 bucks for whole axle ass'y. or we may trade my 5th. wheel tailgate even steven! But, I don't want to end up with another 3:73 The other #'s on front right of Iron where axle tube enters is.....3896839 with the letter " N " centered under the " 6 ". Also, some other day we will be draining and removing the cover off the rear gear housing, on which gear would the ratio number be stamped on? Once again..Kudo's to anyone who can and does help me with this or any other posts I make......Larry

There should be 2 sets of numbers stamped on the ring (big) gear that when divided will give you the gear ratio. From the number of turns you given it don't sound right to me. I have always used the turn the wheel 10 times and count the number of times the yoke spins. Example if the tire spins 10 times and the yoke spins 2 3/4 turns its a 2.73 gear. But either way if you did trade for that rear axle I don't see why you can't see it for 100 bucks or more. I searched around while I was in Louisiana for a rear axle and $250 for a 3.43 gear was the best deal I could find, anything better was more money. I had a 2.73 i was junking out, and this was all 10 bolt rear ends. If you go with a 10 bolt rear axle out of a 80's model truck which will bolt right in just get the u joints for that model truck, you will more than likely get a 2.73 gear which isn't much stepper than the 3.08 you are looking for. Alot of guys that are changing out rear ends will probably give it you you just to get rid of it too. The 10 bolt rear ends are just as strong as the 12 bolts in my opinion, I have put mine thru alot and it help up good.
