hi everybody, i have a question about the rod that is connected between the steering column and the transmission: here you see the rod coming down from the steering column, going to the side of the chassis and the other side goes to the transmission here you can see the rod that is connected to the transmission. my question is about that spring you can see the rusty spring that is on te rod which goes into the side of the chassis. i think that i have put the spring there wrong, because it has no use there... is this where that spring goes? or does it go in between that fork that is on the transmission please tell me , someone ?

Ok there should be a plastic washer ( flat on one side and round on other side they get lots all the time or break wore out try a GM dear or Trans shop, scrap yard. I try to find a pic of how it looks or get pic for you. that washer hard piece to find some times or ever one for gets to make sure it there or in god shape. Oh grease it there too.on the round side of the plastic washer.

That is correct there should be a washer type thing in there and the spring pushes againts it to the other side of the rod to keep things kinda snug. Without the washer there you are probably getting alot of slack in the gear shifter when shifting gears.
