hey ya'll, i have bought new non powered door locks for my 1980 gmc truck which i am restorating.mounting and everything no problem, but my problem is the following.i insert the key in the doorlock, i turn the key and the door locks (i see the doorpin near the window go down),now, while in locked position, i want to take my key out but it wont come out , i have to turn the key again untill the door unlocks again (doorpin jumps up)to get it out... so, i can not lock my doors to go shopping or anything.... what could be the problem? i tried to mount the doorlock in every direction, also the second doorlock for the other door...

seriously, i tried it all , i guess... no go! i can lock it but i can not get the key out then, i even tried my old cilinder doorlocks, same situation, it must have something to do with the locking mechanism?? can anybody show me a perfect setup maybe(perfect, i mean, one that does work..) or how do you shut your doors? put key in, turn key, pin switches down, and while key stays in same position (probably horizontally?) you take the key out? try it please and tell me..

OK Kurt I try to help you first what year door looks are you working with Because if I remember 81-87 differ for 73-80 a little . Any how do you have the two or three rods hooked up one comes from the inner door handle lock ASS. one from the ASS. to the pop knob and one from the out side handle. The key is round with the points down that goes in, should turn left to open on the driver side then turn key back to the up down area key should pull out/ to lock with the key put key in turn right then back pull out key . Now if you did not put the tumbler in the the right position be for hooking up the rods it might not work right . I try to go to the truck to day test and take pic's then test my spare lock tumbler here.

hey pontiac, thanks for the mail, i checked it all closely and it helped, ok it was just a dumb issue! but maybe for people who 'd have the same prob in the future. if you buy new cilinderlocks for these doors, put the clip and the door lock pawl on the cilinder lock.push it in the door hole, cant miss, just make sure the key is in the upright position with the key pins faced down, connect the pawl with the lock system in the door. are you facing the same problem i had, puttin the key in , turn, lock, but can not get key out, well, get the lock cilinder out of the door, do not disconnect the pawl, just get the complete cilinderlock out the door and put it in the other door!!! you have just switched the doorlocks ! 2 days of searching, cursing and swearing! my fault was that i switched the cilinder doorlocks but disconnected the pawls each time!
