Is there a VIN number stamped on 73/87 K frames to tell the year of the frame? If so, where?

what year are you working with what yr is the frame said to be. You decode it like your vin because it is the truck vin that will tell you if the frame matches your cab and what yr the frame can from.

I bought a rolling frame only from a guy and he said it was a 1980. The guy he bought it from parted out the truck and wasn't sure. It's a 1/2 ton 4wd truck. Is there much difference between the years?

OK here goes. this is for the 73-80 frame The first ----- letter will be C for Chevrolet or T for GMC. The second---- C for 2 wheel drive or K for 4 wheel drive. The third is the engine description . The fourth is Series for Chev 1=10, 2=20, 3=30 For GMC 1=15, 2=25, 3=35 The fifth is body type 4 = PICK UP The sixth is Year. 3=73, 4=74, 5=75, 6=76, 7=77, 8=78, 9=79, A=80. Now the # seam to be a little off. but .lets see.
OK if you take a look at my post frame difference you will see the two 73-80 - 81-87 frames look like. the 3/4 frame is more heavy duty a little thicker

The 14 # look like the frame numbers prat Number I can't break them down right now. If you look at your Vin # the frame should be close to that Vin or the same if the frame has never been touched. You'll find the Vin better if the frame is off and cleaned but you may not find it if the frame is to rusted. You see the 14 # good right well the frame Vin is not stamped that bold or as big so they fade out easier. You really have to look for it. Check my frame post with pic's to help a bit .

Hey Pontiac1976, I know it's an older post, but I searched for the "frame post" on this site that has been mentioned a few times on this thread and can't seem to find it. Anyway you have a link to it? I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks! Joe

I have what is supposed to be a 73-86 chevy frame. The only numbers I have found stamped on it are: ToJ5103o9 and the rear end has: 3896839N/GM73 and A96_. Can anyone tell me what all these numbers mean? Thanks I also found 7S231 on the right frame and 8S261 on the left. The S is in a circle, I assume they are part numbers. I also found a second place where the ToJ5103o9 looks more like T6J5103o9. I also have the casting number off the power steering box, 7802644 40, if that helps. I am trying to get parts to overhaul the frame to put a 59 chevy truck body on it and I am rebuilding a 1996 305 engine to put in this truck
