Wow it looks really nice congrats to you and your son! Nice Truck he should be proud of that one. I love how you got your son involved in building the truck. I have a 9 year old boy who loves to help me work on my truck, Camaro and bike. I plan to purchase a project truck in a few years so that we can both build his first ride together. I just showed my son your pics of the before and after with your son working on the truck and it got him really excited to get started on his project. Thanks for the photos and again great job!

Thanks for all of the reply messages!!!! The last photo posted was taken from my driveway in Salt Lake City Utah, The mountains are the Wasatch, We live near the mouth of big Cottonwood canyon. As I look out the window this morning I see snow covering the tops. Which means that it must be time to put the truck away for the winter. The good thing is, I have a 1994 Honda Civic for the son to drive in the bad weather day, when the gas prices are too high, and when we have to do repairs on the old 76!!! Latest repairs??? 1) One afternoon, I received a phone call saying that the truck was dead and out of gas....... this turned into the need to rebuild the old HEI Now, we have a Flamethrower set up with at 50,000 volt coil, All fresh and new! 2) after constant complaints about how hard it is to fuel the truck, and the fuel Gage always reading empty or completely full. We are in the process of repairing them both, one lesson learned. if the opportunity is giving, buy NEW QUALITY parts! I have located a new fuel sending unit, and re- fabricating the filler neck setup. Why the filler neck? Because we changed the bedside for one that has a fuel door instead of the neck sticking out. we elected to keep the stock tank (single on the right side) Because we did not completely undercoat the bed of the truck. we took the option to remove the bed for access to the tank, and the ability to test the new sender on the truck. while the bed is off... We will completely undercoat the bed around the tank area and touch up the frame paint. 3) The great Idea of replacing the seat with a model form 1993 vintage has had a great trial and error efforts. Finally after the third try, I think we have it!! Heres the dilemma if any of you are thinking about a similar swap. you must have access to a wire feed welder, and have some experience with metal fabrication. We used the old (76) seat tracks, and "fabed" up new mounting to the 90's seat. I will be posting some photos for those interested. When finished.... this is a great upgrade and matches quite well! overall, the biggest problem is achieving proper angle and seat height. the third time is the charm!!! I hope. 4) Since the installation of the 2004r Transmission, we have had a few issues #1) leaky pan we found a used one that was strait and not bent, we also installed a drain plug. #2) sluggish shift first to second gear. We replaced the servo in order to give a little more positive shift into second gear. this did the trick quite well! Finally we replaced the speedo gears so that the boy really could see how fast the old truck really is going, before, it displayed about 20 MPH too fast. not a bad deal..... but not accurate. Thanks to the guys at bowtieoverdirves they have all of the answers! 5) Seat-belts: GRRRRR we have been trying to get shoulder belts to work. Every set in gray or black that come up on ebay are very expensive! and everything I come across in the bone-yards are JUNK. Suburban and Blazers will not work. so.... we keep trying. 6) Factory Tach: Lets just say..... this can be very expensive. I posted the story about this on another post.

Hey Mightyy I have that same problem. The past owner of my truck switch bedsides and too now have the fuel door and the same problem of trouble filling the tanks. I have to fill slow, really slow. The filler neck does not seem to be up hgih enough and the pump will automatically shut off when filling. Please let me know how you fixed this problem. Thanks

Ok, you beat me, as I'm looking out of my window I see the dry African earth waiting for some rain, Grass still dry from the winter past, but the promise of a beautiful sunset as the sun dips down over the Kalahari plains, bringing with it the dark red glow that shows tomorrow's going to be another beautiful hot sunny day!
