I decided to pull the gas tank recently because I am going through all the wireing on the truck, and building a new harness for most everything.
So I Finally finished the remove and install of my fuel tank last night. WHAT a beotch!!!
Note to self: NEVER try removing and installing tank again without loosening up the bed or cab!
What a jag I am.... Just try getting those #$^@$%^ little hoses and clamps back on the top of the sender with that freaking tight fit under there! I fought with it for an hour or more before I gave up and just decided to loosen up the dern bed.
When I got the tank out, boy I was glad I had pulled it. I had to replace the 3 hoses on top since a rodent got a hold of them while my truck sat idle in a field for a year. Also, the sender ground wire was BARE wire, no insulation left and like 1 strand of copper wire left! The filler neck ground wire was completely missing!
The inside of the tank was clean though, and no rust. The sock filter was broken and I replaced it with a filter and hose I found through work. (Couldn't find a direct replacement)
I decided to add a packard style connector to ease removal next time, and ran new wires up to the firewall for later connection.
Also had to repair the stud that broke off one of the straps since they were so rusty.
I hate working all by myself sometimes! Just another set of hands and I coulda moved the bed easier!
Even with the bed lifted it is still tight!
I pulled the brake light harness out while the tank was out and put new corrugated insulation on it and strap tied it in about a million spots to make sure mega vibration won't make it come loose too. I put in new filler and vent hoses, clamps, and also a new felt anti-vibration kit for the straps. That should hold er for a while until I add a plastic gas tank sometime in the future.
