Ok, I'm sure you guys remember my many complaints about my truck running very poorly occassionally after exceeding 35 MPH. This week, I disconnected the O2 sensor and have been driving it like that since. It has only began to stumle once or twice since I did that. After about 10 mins and after I start climbing the hills here up in Silver City, NM , the SES light came on like it should. I have already replaced the Coolant Temperature Switch, which in turn made this thing not ever want to start in the morning at all (the other problem). It tends to be very cold blooded. I thought EFI systems didnt need to be warmed up, but mine does or it'll die. Should I go ahead and throw in an O2 sensor? They're kind of expensive, but I do want it to run right I suppose. Is it impossible to remove without the special socket that the Big 3 suggest buying? Thanks guys.

I am not sure :shrug: about the socket needed to remove the sensor, i haven't pulled one. But I would change the o2 sensor. Running with it unplugged will give the ecm false calculations. This is what tiells it if its running to rich or too lean. This will cause the hard starts also. Change it and let us know how it reacts. :givebeer:

If you are going to be replacing it anyways, cut off the wire and use a deep 7/8" socket to remove the sensor. You could also try slipping a 7/8" box end wrench over the end of the connector and down the wire to the sensor. (will work if the connector is a single round style, not the flat style) A bad O2 will give you all kinds of driveability problems, poor fuel economy, and possibly catalytic converter damage (if you still have a cat on there.... )

Well, sure enough, it was the LAST thing I checked. It needed new plug wires the WHOLE time :oops: . New CarQuest plug wires, and no more stumbing, no more attempts at dying when climbing, just .. power. I guess when water got on the wires when I did the CTS, it may have damaged them further. Thanks for all, and I mean ALL, of your help guys. It still doesnt like to start in the mornings, though. Cant figure out why... :braindead:

Always gotta start with the basics....
- Air - Fuel -Spark/Timing
A tune up seems like such a simple thing, until you run into a problem like this....
Your standard Tune-up in a nutshell... - Plugs -Wires -Cap -Rotor -PCV valve -PCV filter (if equipped) -Fuel filter -Air filter
Any ONE of these things (with the exception of the PCV filter) WILL change the way your truck runs, and possibly prevent it from running...
