Hey guys!
Long time, no talk. Have been busy moving around here and there. Bought a newer car, so the truck's been sitting some time, but I'm bringing it back to the road. Goin to do a full restore on it, I decided. Anyhow, looking to install a 700R4 back into this. The moron before me put a TH350 with a short tail shaft in it, causing a hell vibration (they used the stock shaft and moved the crossmember accordingly). So, now that I plan to reinstall the stock tranny, I had a few questions after reading your 700R4 post. The difference in splines - 27 and 30 - does a stock 87 engine require either one specifically? Does the TC connect to this shaft, and then the TC mates to the flywheel? (cant remember what the a/t version is of the flywheel). Just basically needin to know what I need to buy to make sure I get it right the first time. Thanks for any help.

The difference is the input shaft. The only thing different you need to worry about is the torque convertor. Make sure you get the one for the right shaft. The 27 spline is the weaker version of the 700r4 but will work fine in a stock vehicle. And no you don't have to have a specific one for your truck, either one will work. The flywheel is the same for all auto trannies if I remember correctly. Just make sure you get one for the right crank your engine uses. The newer 1 piece rear main seal has a different bolt pattern then the older 2 piece rear main seals.

Cool, thanks for the info. What about the aux valve body? What in the world is it, and does it make any difference?

The aux valve body differed thru thr years, my best advice is use the one that came with the tranny you plan to use.
