I'm trying to figure out what type of gears I need to have in my truck. As you can tell by my tag name, i have an 83 chevy k10 with 9" of lift sitting 38's. Its mainly a show truck, but if I was asked to go out to a mud run I don't wana bail out cuz I don't have adequate components. I've only have the truck since May, and deployed in June so never really got time with it. I don't want to explain my truck or put it to the test and lose all credibility cuz it doesn't perform like it looks it would. Any help on f and r gears or anything else I need?Keep in mind it will NEVER be a trail runner, just maybe a mud runner every now and then. Oh! I'm putting in a new 350 with mild cam, demon 650 carb, crane roller rockers, etc...if that helps any

First and foremost Hi, It would help to know what Trans in it a Auto / Manual what motor in it now what RPM 40 mph, 50 mph, 65 mph, is this the same motor your going to be doing the work to. Oh by the way you I assume this is a 4x4 since you did not say, There would be two diffs in it and you would need to have both gears the same (means if you change gears you need to do both). Now I am not in to 4x4's to much I'm better with 2x4 drive train. I would try to find out what you have in the truck as to gears. If you have a good steep gears then it would be cheaper & less work to play with tire size. Might be better play a bit with the truck find out what it like then you might know better what area's need more work or what way to go at make it better & work for you. The thing big or more power is not all ways better, you have to make as much of the power and the gears work 85 90 o/o of the time the other o/o is slip drive train slip. And I hope other on here that are in the this type of set up will chime in. good luck.
