So, I am trying to remove my drive shaft in order to drop my transmission on my '82 C10. According to the Haynes manual, you simply remove the 4 bolts holding the 2 straps on, slide the shaft forward to disconnect , and then backwards as you drp it down. Well, tried it and failed. After removing the 2 straps, the thing wouldn't budge. From looking at it, it seems that I need to remove this real big pin. I tapped off a couple of clips (didn't think it would do anything; just wanted to take something apart) but I just don't know what to do next. I don't know what info someone would need to help me, but it is a one-piece shaft. Basically, I don't have a clue what I am doing. Please help!!!

Well, I was going to take some pictures, but decided to put a 5 lb. maul to it in a last ditch effort and it worked; she popped right out. After removing the shaft, I was gonna start removing the transmission crossmember but I'll have to let the bolts sit in some WD-40 overnight. A couple of them are loose but the nuts are rusted on. The only problem is the bolts aren't like bolts, they are more like rivets. Of course, it's always something.

Oh well you got the drive shaft out check the u-joints front and back make sure that they are free, Grease them. You can check the needle bearing but be- careful not two loose any of them if they have a fitting use it. If not do it by hand, as you said you have a book this should be in there too.
