Hey there. Great forum guys! This is my first thread. I have an 85 shorty 2wd that came with a 350 long shaft. I fragged that tranny with a broke driveshaft yolk and swapped in a short shaft I had layin around (after diggin through a pile of driveshafts stacked like cord wood). Now heres the question. Do I need to find a manual crossmember or will the stock one fit? If the stock one will work, do I have to move it back? This may cause a problem due to the slight bend in the frame where the first driveshaft smacked it. :'( Thankx for lending an ear. -Damon

OK all most all trucks came with longer shaft tail in the 350TH the short tail shaft are car trans med car body's . Any how your 350 3" tail shaft will and should bolt in the same place drive shaft needs to be longer . Was the broken shaft a single drive shaft or a two piece shaft.

It was a one peice. The shaft didn't break. It was the yolk around where the u-joint cap goes through. Had a crappy floor shifter that let me push right through 3rd into reverse.
I know the short shaft tranny will work, its been abused for about 3 years now. It is on its last legs though and I want to put a Borg Warner T-10 out of my 79 Z28 in it. I know I'll need pedal assemble and stuff, but I'm sure that kind of thing can still be found in the j-yard. do you know if the crossmember is the same.
