One of my pet peeves is vehicles not having tachometers, epically ones with manual transmissions. These trucks seem to be well instrumented, having oil and volts which many cars do not, but mine doesn't have a tach, and I can't seem to find a dash that does. At first I thought maybe the tach was optional on higher end models, but I haven't seen one. It seem the logical place for the tach would be next to the speedo. Why on earth do these trucks have a fuel gauge as big as the speedo!? Were the trucks designed to have a tach and for some reason they were omitted during the design process? Mine lacks a clock, that empty spot on the 4 smaller gauge cluster seems a much more logical location for a fuel gauge to me.

Yes they did but but it was raer that most would order it. The 1 Tons and work fleet small dump trucks had a lot more. But still hard to find them. They made a few changes to the years wiring so you have to get the right one or do A lot of checking wiring re-wiring . ( So you do not burn you dash wiring harness UP! )

This should help: if you want to look for a factory set up look forward to paying $100- $300 range and one that has not been played with And wire end for the tach.

Ho the clock is easy get or find there is two the early and the late .
E-bay and a few places still have them. You have to look. Salavge yards still get them

Here is your clock with 3 days left it's the quartz from 1981-87 but will work on the 73-80 too but more factory on the later.

Ok good to know. For that price Im temped to just mount a small aftermarket tach to the steering column or replace all the gauges with autometer gauges. Hum, you can just add the clock? the whole dash including the 'blank' spot seems to all be one piece.

OK you have not had the inner face cover off yours yet. I will try to show you the backer that the gauges sit on this is a none gauge backer I sold to a member here and you can see what he did.

This case can be used only for factory warning lights, but can make a great mount holder for after market gauges with some mods
you have to take your time!.
the better cases are the 87-91 The 87 trucks 87-91 Jimmy/ Blazer - Suburban.
That only if you want factory lock most factory gauges but not the cases backers are the same, But you want cases that had gauges in them.
even the 84-87 is OK but you want the better case # that lets you add a clock easier. But first I would have to see a pic of yours. to tell you witch way or if you would be better to look for a new case backer.
I was going to do a write up on cluster but have not got all my pic ready or info set up yet. If your working with 84 up speedo's you need the 84 up cases Because speedo does not fit with out Mod's to the hole area I do not like to cut up good cases or my better cases un less it has clock pop out for mounting it.Here the link for the two .
